The All Women's Crew

Are you a woman interested in volunteering to help families build simple, decent, affordable homes? Would you enjoy learning construction and home repair skills in a fun, safe, team, learning environment? Then Habitat for Humanity East Bay’s All Women's Crew is for you!

The All Women's Crew provides a meaningful and rewarding experience for women who volunteer and financially support Habitat's mission. As they assist low-income families build their homes, Women's Crew members also acquire skills they can use to repair and maintain their own homes.

The History

  • The first home that the All Women's Crew built was a duplex in Antioch, begun in 1995 and completed in 1997.
  • The second project was a refurbished women's shelter in Oakland in conjunction with Lutheran Church's Salem House.
  • In 1999, the women co-sponsored a home With Taco Bell in the Black Diamond Park neighborhood of Pittsburg.
  • In 2001, The All Women's Crew sponsored one of 16 townhomes on Ellis Street in Concord.
  • In 2003, the Crew dedicated their 4th sponsored home for the Ramos Family at other Herb White Way development in Pittsburg.
  • From August 2004 - November 2006, rehabbed and decorated 1225 Court St., Martinez, which was then sold on the open market.
  • To celebrate their 10th anniversary milestone, the Women's Crew returned to Antioch to sponsor and build a house in the West Rivertown development in 2007.
  • The All Women's Crew was well represented by 8 crew leaders and several other volunteers at the April 2009 Build-A-Thon at the Edes Avenue site in Oakland, participating in the framing of 20 homes, in addition to fundraising for the development.
  • The 6th sponsored home the women worked on was a rehab project on Bonifacio St. in Concord. The dedication was Saturday, March 20, 2010. Read the blog that chronicles the progress.
  • The April 2010 Build-A-Thon at Kinsell Commons in Oakland was a fabulous representation of what our Women’s Crew members have learned over the years…7 crew leaders and numerous other women volunteered to both build and help with support functions, the goal being to frame 10 homes in 4 days.
