Habitat for Humanity East BayThe good news is that this rehab project is moving along well ahead of schedule! The bad news is that we can’t do too much more until the lead abatement is completed, which we hope will be scheduled soon. So… this Saturday’s workday (8/15) was canceled, and we’ll know in the next day or so about NEXT week’s workdays. (If signups for those dates are available online, but the dates are canceled later, those signed up will be notified. The Women’s Crew will get an email about next week’s status as soon as the team leaders know.)
This Friday’s workday was productive, however, with nine volunteers (6 from the Women’s Crew, and 3 long-term guy volunteers). Using (and tweaking) the landscaping layout provided free by a landscape architect, two ladies spray painted the outlines of planting areas in the back yard, and then put on their work gloves and took out two stumps there! Four other ladies painted again… touchups and final coats in bedrooms; second coats in the kitchen; and first coat on ceiling and trim in the bathroom.
The third valve’s the charm for Lowell and Chuck, who worked again on the main shut-off valve in front, finally conquering the persistent leak that had frustrated them. Hans came out to look at our progress and to review with Mike C and Bob R the electrical layout Bob had done.
Earlier in the week Rae, whose philosophy is “Just ask; the worst they can do is say no,” had asked a local garden supply place if there was any way they could help with the outdoor part of this rehab project. They very generously offered several torn/repaired bags of various products such as mulch, bark, and planting mix, so Rae took some time off painting duty to pick up the bags and bring them back to the site! Thank you, Rae and local garden supply place (you know who you are, and will get a thank you note soon!)! When we get ready to plant drought-resistant plants in the back yard, that donation will improve our likelihood of success!
Photos from this Friday are posted on the online Bonifacio scrapbook. Scroll down to the end to see the latest ones.
Check back here each Monday afternoon to read about the weekend’s progress at this great little Concord house! It’s shaping up nicely!
There's always time for a popcicle break when you're working hard in the heat!
