Bay-Friendly Landscaping

When many think of green building, they think solar panels. However, this is just one element of green building. Habitat East Bay incorporates native plants and sustainable landscaping techniques into neighborhood design is another major part of our sustainable building practices.

Recently, Habitat East Bay was rewarded for their green landscaping techniques by Bay-Friendly Landscaping, an organization that helps to preserve the San Francisco Bay watershed. Bay-Friendly Landscaping designated HEB as a "Bay-Friendly Landscaper" -- an award that means we take a holistic approach to the management of landscaping and protecting our watershed.

Currently, Habitat East Bay is working to design the Edes Avenue common area to be a Bay-Friendly Landscape. This garden will include open space, a small playground, and native, drought tolerant plants. Our partner families will be trained to maintain their garden with Bay-Friendly practices, such as grasscycling, sheet mulching, and integrated pest management (IPM). This is just one more way that we are helping promote sustainable, green living within the East Bay.
