Kathy Schmitz, a dedicated All-Women's Crew member, will be chronicling the progress of the revitalization taking place on Bonifacio Street. The house was bequeathed to Habitat for Humanity East Bay by Clarice Garrison, a very generous Legacy Society donor. The home, sponsored by the Women's Crew, will be rehabilitated and sold to a low-income family.

Week 8

October 28, 2009

Go to gallery -> With the house passing lead inspection, we were able to get back to work! Friday the Women's Crew and other volunteers were on the scene starting the next stages of the rehab.

Go to gallery -> With the lead abatement work completed and an inspection needed before opening the site for our usual Friday/Saturday workdays, some cleanup was necessary to get ready for the inspection. So we got to work!

Lead Abatement Update

Go to gallery -> It's been six weeks since we last worked at the Bonifacio house in Concord, and we're missing it big time! However, the long-awaited lead abatement work by the specialist contractor is underway, and we hope to be back to work soon. I stopped by the house a few days ago, and was excited to see that the old windows and front door are gone and new ones are in their place!

Week 6

August 24, 2009

Go to gallery -> Today marked the last work day for at least 3 weeks due to lead abatement and a holiday weekend. The lead abatement process will bring in contractors that will be removing the pre-World War II lead from the homes windows and from some parts of the kitchen.

Garrison Story

Clarice Garrison was a strong believer in Habitat's mission to help rebuild communities through homeownership opportunities. This year, she bequeathed her home to Habitat East Bay to provide a foundation for a low-income family that will improve their lives. Read Clarice's story.

NSP Program

Habitat East Bay has launched a program in partnership with Contra Costa County and the City of Hayward to buy foreclosed properties, rehabilitate them and sell them to low-income families. Read more.
