Sample Budgets

IMPORTANT!
Please be realistic about participating in this program. Joining AmeriCorps is a big emotional, physical, and financial commitment. You are giving a year of your life to serve others, in exchange for learning new skills and having an enriching experience. Be aware that you will not be highly compensated financially in return. The living allowance is $11,400 before taxes, an amount that will barely cover your housing, food, transportation and living expenses in the Bay Area. You will not have much extra cash for social activities, emergencies, travel, etc. during your service year. Below is a sample budget prepared by our current AmeriCorps members. Please sit down and plan your budget before applying for an AmeriCorps position with HEB. We encourage members to work a summer job and save money before starting the AmeriCorps program. You may also need to use some of your savings during your year.
