Meet the Garcia/Sanchez Family

The Garcia/Sanchez family has never been be one to sit back and watch things happen; they pursue their goals in order to make them a reality. “Our dream in life is to reach our goals by working hard, studying, and never giving up,” Maria said.

Jesus and Maria moved from Mexico to the United States to give their three children, Noel (17), Roman (16) and Zaira (12) more opportunities. Maria says her dream for her children is to see them achieve their goals. Jesus agrees and wants them to be able to care for themselves when he is older. For now, he desires to provide his family with a secure future.  Becoming a Habitat homeowner is a big step in achieving that.

“A Habitat house means a lot to us because we thought that attaining a house would be impossible since house prices are very expensive and are not within our reach. Habitat gave us the opportunity to have our own house with the comfort of payments.”

Jesus works for the URS Corporation and Maria spends her time at the Family Literacy Program in Alameda studying to become a child development worker. The family is very involved in their community and in their commitment to helping others.

“We are a very friendly family. With love we open our doors to whoever needs our help because we know that someday we could need help from them.”

Jesus and Maria also value family time and regularly go to the park on Sundays with their three children. Both Noel and Roman attend Alameda Science and Technology Institute in Alameda. Noel, a 12th grader, enjoys music and art, while Roman, who is in 11th grade, likes music and soccer. Not to be outdone, Zaira, a 6th grader at Chipman Elementary, plays soccer as well. She also enjoys reading books.

The Garcia/Sanchez family is excited for their new home and said the first thing they will put on the wall when they move in is a picture of the Virgin de Guadalupe because they always thank her for helping them to get the things they need.
